My name is Amanda. I am a writer, currently working on a fantasy novel. My Master of Fine Arts was earned in 2015 at Kingston University in London, England. While getting my MFA I taught Writing and Genre Comprehension to a class of freshman as well as running a literary journal, RiPPLE, the most successful Kingston had ever seen. I earned my undergraduate degree at California State University, Channel Islands in English Literature. Minor studies included History, Performing Arts, and Psychology with an Emphasis in Creative Writing.
I enjoy all different genres, television shows, and films. I have experience with film and television scripts as well as short stories, novels, plays, flash fiction, and poetry of all genres. It is my goal to find something that will connect my students to the material in a way that makes the subject seem more like a hobby and less like a chore. This is something that I've worked well at with all my students. Each student is different and the challenge of reaching them is thrilling. My aim in the next five years is to have my mini-series script picked up, two novels published, and to have my PhD completed.
I have studied story structure for years and with that I have become well versed in the way that the English language works. I know that looking at the mechanics of how it all makes sense can often be overwhelming but it is my goal to unravel the specifics and ease my students with real life examples that they can relate to in their own lives. Not only can I help with grammar, literature, writing, proofing, and reading, I can also help with structure, genre specifics and scripting. While earning my British teach certification I encountered the many different ways that students think and have experience working with many different learning types.
My main goal is to make education fun and I think that the best way to achieve this is to curtail my lessons to the lives of the students that I am teaching. I promise that my students come away knowing a lot more than they did coming in. I encourage you to come to me if you do need any assistance and I will do everything in my power to help you go above and beyond your own expectations.
