Mathematics is the study of order, relation, pattern, uncertainty and generality and is underpinned by observation, logical reasoning and deduction. It is an interconnected subject that involves understanding and reasoning about concepts and the relationships between those concepts. It provides a framework for thinking and a means of communication that is powerful, logical, concise and precise.
It is imperative that students learn the REASONS and be able to answer WHY to the particular Mathematical concepts rather than just learning on HOW to solve Mathematical problems.
My key focus of teaching is to stimulate the students thinking of the WHY and lead the students to be able to think through the purpose of Mathematical formulae. Upon understanding the WHY, students will be less reliant on memorisation of formulae and will be able to derive them on the fly. Eventually students will become more effective in learning and answering examination questions will be an easy task. This will in return drive curiosity in students to understand the more complex topics which will further help in the overall understanding of Mathematics that is beyond the school curriculum.
